About Us
About Whitby & District Lions Club
Whitby & District Lions Club was chartered in October 1970 and we have been serving the Whitby and district area ever since. We are a completely voluntary run club which has been at the heart of Whitby and its surrounding village communities since 1970.
We are part of Lions Clubs International — the world's largest service organisation — with 1.35 million members who perform community service in 209 countries. Across the British Isles and Ireland alone there are 17,000 active members belonging to 900 local clubs. Lions volunteer around 6 million hours of service every year in Europe and raise £88 million.
Our Motto
Lions motto is "WE SERVE" — and we have been doing just that since 1970, demonstrating our members' determination to support local communities and help disadvantaged individuals.
What We Do
We are proud to have served Whitby and the surrounding communities since 1970. During 2022 alone, Whitby Lions donated £11,500.00 to local charities including:
- WISH Foundation
- Friends of Pannett Park
- Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary
- Whitby District Scouts and Guides
- Whitby RNLI
- St Catherine's Hospice
- The Eskdale Festival of Arts
- Wet Wheels Yorkshire
We also funded defibrillators and scout hall costs for the local community.
Membership
There is no minimum time commitment required from members, but we all try our best to work our commitment to Lions around the demands of our family and work lives. If you are interested in joining, please get in touch.
