Whitby & District Lions Club

COMMUNITY IS WHAT WE MAKE IT

We are proud to have served Whitby and the surrounding communities since 1970. Lions meet the needs of local
communities around the world. Our 1.35 million members who perform community service in 209 countries and
geographic areas are different in many ways, but share a core belief.

Club members are all volunteers giving our time to run events that raise money to help those less fortunate than ourselves whilst enjoying fun and fellowship. Absolutely every penny we raise helps numerous good causes – our administration costs are covered from the modest subscriptions our members pay.

Whitby Lion’s is a completely voluntary run club which has been at the heart of Whitby and its surrounding village communities since 1970 and have been serving our area ever since.

People become Lions for many and varied reasons. For some it is the wish to put something back in to their community, for others it’s the desire to make a difference. Whatever your motivation for wanting to join Lions we would love to hear from you. There is no minimum time commitment required from members, but we all try our best to work our commitment to Lions around the demands of our family and work lives.

You can find Lions Clubs throughout the British Isles and Ireland – we have 17,000 active members belonging to 900 local clubs. Every Lions Club supports a range of projects in its local community – including health and youth initiatives – where you can get involved.
Every day, Lions are having fun by organising remarkable and memorable fundraising activities – with every penny raised going direct to good causes. Every year, in Europe alone, Lions Clubs’ members volunteer around 6 million hours of service and raise £88 million to support the needs of local communities.

Help & Support – Covid-19

We are all aware that this is difficult time for our community, for the families who have tragically lost a loved one, people who are suffering from isolation, to children not being in school and learning and to those less fortunate than ourselves who are relying on the support of organisations for the basic essentials in life.
As Whitby Lions, our sole purpose is to help and support individuals or organisations in our community through this difficult time, therefore if any individual or an organisations needs our help, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We may be able to help with food deliveries, providing a friendly telephone call for the elderly in isolation or with financial support for those charities/ organisations helping others to deal with the crisis.
We wish everyone well and we know that our lovely Whitby community will get though this. Take care and be sure to get in touch should any of the above be useful to you during this time.
