Whitby & District Lions Club

COMMUNITY IS WHAT WE MAKE IT

We are proud to have served Whitby and the surrounding communities since 1970. Lions meet the needs of local
communities around the world. Our 1.35 million members who perform community service in 209 countries and
geographic areas are different in many ways, but share a core belief.

Whitby Lion’s is a completely voluntary run club which has been at the heart of Whitby and its surrounding village communities since 1970 and have been proudly serving our area ever since.

The club is part of a network of other Lions clubs around the country and worldwide that make up Lions International. Their 1.35 million members who perform community service in 209 countries share a core belief, ‘we serve,’ which demonstrates club member’s determination to help the less fortunate and to support local communities.

During 2022 alone, Whitby Lions donated £11,500.00 to local charities and good causes, including; WISH Foundation, Friends of Pannett Park, Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, Whitby District Scouts and Guides, Whitby RNLI, St Catherine’s Hospice, The Eskdale Festival of Arts and Wet Wheels, Yorkshire. The club also used its fundraising to help buy and install defibrillators in Pannet Park and around the town as well as contributing to the running costs of the scout hall in Whitby.

People become Lions for many and varied reasons. For some it is the wish to put something back in to their community, for others it’s the desire to make a difference. Whatever your motivation for wanting to join Lions we would love to hear from you. There is no minimum time commitment required from members, but we all try our best to work our commitment to Lions around the demands of our family and work lives.

You can find Lions Clubs throughout the British Isles and Ireland – we have 17,000 active members belonging to 900 local clubs. Every Lions Club supports a range of projects in its local community – including health and youth initiatives – where you can get involved.
Every day, Lions are having fun by organising remarkable and memorable fundraising activities – with every penny raised going direct to good causes. Every year, in Europe alone, Lions Clubs’ members volunteer around 6 million hours of service and raise £88 million to support the needs of local communities.
